South African. Sci-fi/computing/English geek, married to a computing/engineering geek. Parent of one gorgeous wee human and one quirky little feline. Interested in how we think and learn. Try my hand at poetry and fanfic with questionable success. Will one day find the novel we apparently all have within us and write it, although I fear it could very well be something like "Ducky's big day out!".
Friending:
Most things are generally friends-locked for the usual reasons. I'm a liberal - bigots, racists and homophobes are not the sort of people I'm interested in friending, but if you do not fall into that category and we have anything in common, you don't habitually rite l1ke ths b1tcH!!!!1!!!!", and you're over 18 (sorry, but what with how LJ has been lately I don't want to have to censor everything I say in case they deem my experiences unfit for young ears), then I'd love to have you as a friend. Let me know whether you'd like to be on my fandom-only filter, or if you'd like to read the waffle about my daily life too.

I used to friend back automatically, but these days my f-list has grown so much that I don't seem to have time to keep up with everything on it. For this reason, if all you ever post is fic, unless it's consistently brilliant fic, I'm unlikely to friend back any more; I kinda like reading about people's lives and interests, and since I'm more likely to actually connect with people who use their LJs to allow others to get to know them, to whatever extent, I'm more likely to prioritise reading those journals.
